Social Media Consultation: NFL in Action

NFL players, and those in the other major pro sports, are learning that the impersonal fans of old are morphing into the we-take-it-personal fans of today when it comes to Twitter, Facebook and other forms of social media. Twitter allows each player to hold his own national forum each day, without reporters or microphones, creating a bond that never existed before between athlete and fan, participant and spectator. For instance, many of Maurkice Pouncey's 135,000 followers on Twitter feel a special kinship to the three-time Pro Bowl center because he often tweets a dozen times or more per day, creating the impression of a one-on-one relationship. Pouncey also gives away prizes at random. And some of Ike Taylor's 119,000 followers likely were drawn to him because of the inspirational messages he relays each day.

The Eagles, for example, review the Twitter and Facebook pages of all prospective draft picks, if only to gauge a player's personality and detect possible trouble. Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert discourages but doesn't ban players from tweeting — more than 70 Steelers players do — but asks them to be professional and courteous. Tomlin unexpectedly jumped on the Twitter bandwagon last month, saying he wanted to give his players a social media role model.

Charley Casserly, a former general manager of the Redskins and Texans, would dislike his players being equipped with such a potentially troublesome tool. Still, with more than 1,000 NFL players on Twitter, it's becoming more difficult for teams to put the social media genie back into the bottle. “When I've given talks to teams about how to handle the media, I tell them social media is like having a national press conference: Everyone has access to it,” said Casserly, an NFL Network analyst. “When you go for a national press conference, you're composed, you've thought out what you're going to say, you're in a reserved mood and careful. On Twitter, some things will come out that shouldn't be out there. And there's a level of mental toughness that you have to have to be on Twitter because anybody can access you, anybody can say anything to you. How does that affect you?” On Twitter or Facebook, blocking an individual prevents them from accessing that account. Some players stick to the basics, with benign comments and go-team messages. Others are apt to discuss anything that's on their mind. That's why some teams tell their players to remember that the first four letters in Twitter are twit — and not to be one when they post a message that can be read by a potential audience of 500 million.

Group Reprt 2 By Tajmina_Sajid_Hamza

Group Progress Report 2

What role is each group member assigned to in the group?

Tajmina Aakhi
Tajmina is responsible for the introduction of this whole presentation. She is going to be announcing exactly what we are all going to talk about throughout the entire discussion. She is also responsible for the interactive video that will support the statements made by the group members.

Sajid Ali:
So after discussing with the group we decided to switch the responsibilities of the individuals in the group therefore, Tajmina has decided to introduce the topic while Sajid will try to find whether or not online education is actually beneficial or just a waste of time depending on the research.

Hamza Malik Tariq:
He is responsible for the pros, and cons of online education. He will try to find what may be beneficial for people who are interested in online education. On the other hand, how online education could be a setback and may not help an individual at all when he/she finally decides to learn in a classroom.

Specific research:
Many people have tried to go through online education to get their degree but we want to find out if they have been successful in actually getting that degree. Some questions in mind are the level of difficulty compared to what a person learns in school and if the intellect one receives from actually having a face to face interaction and what somebody learns just by reading online. Our motive is to research and find as much information as we can which is true about the topic and not out dated or false. It's very important for people to understand if online education is right for them and if the level of education is as great as what one gets to learn in class. We will also talk to people who have taken their education online and hear how it has benefited them or effected them after they have transitioned into a real classroom environment.

 Sources:
We will try to find information online from sources like UHD libraries and Hcc database including other online websites. Also we will look for books which have a connection with the topic at hand which is online education. Newspapers/Magazines which almost always have data regarding online education.

Blog #7 By Tajmina

Blog Assignment 7: Privacy Scavenger Hunt

Supreme Court to Rule on Privacy of Hotel Records :

Supreme Court agreed to hear Los Angeles Vs. Patel, a challenge to a local ordinance that allows police to inspect hotel guest registries without a warrant or judicial supervision. A federal appeals court ruled that the LA law said it was unconstitutional because the authority could violate the Fourth Amendment. The Supreme Court will consider both the privacy protections for hotel guests and also whether the Fourth Amendment  which prohibits laws that allow unlawful searches. In my opinion, Supreme court should allow the privacy protection because protection comes first then anything else. LA has a higher crime rate because it allows most of the rule as "Unconstitutional".

Guy Comcast Got Fired Now Suing Comcast For Violating Federal Privacy Law :

Conal O’Rourke, claims that after a series of calls with Comcast’s customer service department, Comcast complained to his employer about him and he was fired from his job.  A cable company willing to bend or break the law and reveal innocuous information perhaps shouldn't be trusted to act better with more personal information. In my opinion, The sharing of even seemingly harmless identifying personal information represents a pretty massive screw up on Comcast's part.

EPIC Urges Department of Transportation to Protect Driver Privacy :

EPIC has submitted detailed comments to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, urging the agency to protect driver privacy for "vehicle-to-vehicle" aka V2V technology. The technology transmits data between vehicles to facilitate warnings to drivers concerning impending crashes. It also urged National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to protect driver privacy and establish privacy safeguards for car "black boxes." In my opinion, I like this idea and I think it will help out a lot in the case of privacy and it will benefit drivers.

Blog Assignment 6: Privacy By Tajmina Aakhi

                         Blog Assignment 6: Privacy

The four social media where I belong are Facebook, Skype, Viber and Yahoo messenger.Facebook is making its confusing privacy set a little more clear. New Facebook users' posts will automatically be set to "Friends", meaning only friends can see your information. Facebook announced this news in a post in its Newsroom on Thursday. Facebook also have this  "Privacy Checkup" tool, which explains to people a little more about where their posts go. Skype is also good because Skype's privacy settings let you control who can contact you on Skype. We can easily change your privacy settings to prevent unknowns calls or spam messages. Conversation history is stored on Skype's cloud for 30 days; however, we can set our computer to save our chat history for longer, if we want. Or we can delete entire conversation history from device if we like to. From time to time, Skype revise this Policy. They reserve the right to update or modify this Policy, or any other of our policies or practices, at any time with or without notice. However, they do not use your Personal Information in a way that is materially different than the uses described in this Policy without giving you an opportunity to opt-out of such differing uses. We will post the revised Policy on the Site, so that users can always be aware of what information we collect, how the information is used and under what circumstances such information may be disclosed. Viber agree to review the Policy periodically so that you are aware of any modifications. Your continued use of the Site indicates your assent to any changes and signifies your agreement to the terms of our Policy. If you do not agree with these terms, you should not use the Site, the Viber App, or any other Service. This policy covers how Yahoo treats personal information that Yahoo collects and receives, including information related to your past use of Yahoo products and services. Personal information is information about you that is personally identifiable like your name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available. The best out of these four is Facebook. The worst in my opinion is Viber. I feel secure using these services because I always try to put little information as possible on internet.

Group Progress Report 1 By Tajmina

What role is each group member assigned to in the group?
In order to ensure success, all group members must be given equal power and authority to both write and modify the project. Each individual in the group should assume the same level of responsibility for the entire project. Our topic is "Online Education" where I'm responsible for the introduction of this subject. Sajid  will represent some of the pros and cons of online education. Hamza has to do the media job. He has to look for a video where we it discuss  about our topic and we can summarize our opinion about it. Two minds are better than one. we resist the temptation to immediately divide the project into sections and have each person( sajid & hamza) be responsible for one portion. Although it initially may seem more difficult, continuously working together on all parts of the project increases overall productivity. This approach allows us to build on the ideas of others and use each other’s perspectives to create a more well-rounded and fluid presentation about "Online Education".
What specific research will you be conducting in relation to your topic?  Be as specific as possible.
Since every group member has different skills and talents, recognizing each member’s unique strengths is essential to maximizing the group’s collective productivity. I will have to look for the meaning of online education. And why people even feel interest in online education. How is it affecting internationally and what is the impact on people of online education.group learning has its irreplaceable importance, but we got to spend proper amount of time in it. I've stated that working in group creates good atmosphere for communication, and communication helps a lot not only in problem solving but also in motivating every member in the group. Meanwhile, I've also pointed that working alone for meditating and review is equally important because group learning won't help you anything in digesting all the information acquired. That is individual part of this project is significant. Therefore I know my contribution toward this project.
What sources do you anticipate using?
